Performing
Realizing artistic ideas and work through interpretation and presentation
4. Analyze, interpret and select artistic work for presentation
5. Develop and refine artistic work for presentation
6. Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work
Conduction enables students to produce, review, and revise their original works. Generating a composition challenges students to identify forms, techniques, and elements in popular music in order to combine, mix, and rearrange them in new, creative ways.
Conduction programs bring students up close and personal with live musicians to practice and rehearse their original songs, giving them a deeper understanding of how composition and notation translates to a live performance.
The ability to remix and recreate musical works from throughout history gives students a deeper appreciation and understanding of the artform by exposing them to a multitude of styles and genres while combining modern production techniques with traditional performance.

Responding
Understanding and evaluating how the arts convey meaning
7. Perceive and analyze artistic work
8. Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work
9. Apply criteria to evaluate artistic work
Conduction’s collaborative online platform enables students to share and review compositions created by their peers both in and out of their own classrooms. The program encourages and facilitates cultural exchange between students of all ages and backgrounds, exposing them to a limitless world of creative expression.
Conduction programs provide students with a powerful lens to critically examine and interpret the artistic processes behind creating music. Students are united with musicians to test hypotheses of how their compositions will sound, and evaluate and form judgments on various musical elements.
Conduction encourages students to evaluate the songs and instrumental tracks they are mixing, and understand how these tracks evolve beyond their original context. Educators are empowered to facilitate group and individual analysis and constructive critique by students of their own work and the work of their peers.

Conduction empowers students’ uniquely personal style of creative expression, giving them the chance to reimagine existing works of music in the context of their own interests, emotions, and philosophies. Students are challenged to analyze compositions through a historical and cultural lens, identify musical themes, and relate their knowledge and experiences to their work through critique and discussion.
Conduction programs deepen understanding of musical artforms by encouraging exchange and comparison of various artistic ideas and musical elements across time periods and geographic regions. This gives students the opportunity to identify and explore societal, cultural, and historical context behind the music they are are mixing, and relate it to their own emotions and experiences.

Value of Awe, Wonder, and Amazement in the Classroom

When was the last time you saw a kid amazed, even astounded, in a classroom? The power of Conduction lies in the fact that students are composing digital songs that they then magically see performed by real-life community members. Most students never knew this was possible, or that THEY could do it. It instills in a student the feeling of awe, of amazement – shock of their own potential.

Adapting to Today’s Student interests in 2024

Music education can and should emphasize history of music, but it shouldn’t rely on it. Students of 2024 are interested in more than the American Songbook. Students of 2024 are hungry to learn about the music they hear on Spotify. Infusing that into music class or band class can be impossible. Conduction allows students to remix modern songs while still understanding the power of sheet music.

Value of Music Education Through Experience

Conduction Education doesn’t teach you how to read sheet music. It doesn’t teach you how to play an instrument. What it does, is teaches you the power of music by actually producing music yourself. It enables someone with no sheet music or music experience to compose a song and see it performed live. It engages students and draws them into band class by helping them realize that a songwriter doesn't have to be a 30-year-old in LA with sunglasses but rather the student themselves.

Value of Community in the Classroom

When a student creates a song in Conduction, it can then be performed by local musicians, students in their own school, students at a nearby college, or even musicians at the local Symphony. These are not abstract musicians – these are real humans that are reading music produced by the student. The students connect with the musicians from their community; they feel like part of a team and feel empowered.

Value of Empowerment in the Classroom

Empowered students are more engaged in the learning process. They are more likely to set goals, take on challenges, and overcome challenges and obstacles. Opportunities for choice and autonomy inspire students to take ownership of their learning.
